Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis Slow Jam Mix
Las Vegas, NV – September 12, 2016 – Exotic DJ has released the next installment of the Smooth R&B Mix Series. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis Slow Jam Mix is a compilation of songs either written or produced by the talented duo. This mix features tracks from the artists that made them famous.
The Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis Slow Jam Mix begins with The Force M.D.’s, with Tender Love being the only song that came out of the collaboration of these two entities. Alexander O’ Neal contributes a couple of tracks in this effort. Sunshine and If You Were Here Tonight are two of his signature songs.
Fun Fact: Alexander was the original singer of The Time, and he was fired by Prince when O’Neal wanted to discuss money matters. Coincidentally, Jam & Lewis were also fired by Prince, as they were working with the S.O.S. Band. They could not get out of town due to weather, and they missed a concert date.
In hindsight, getting fired was the best thing that could have happened.
Speaking of the S.O.S Band, Tell Me If You Still Care is the band’s most popular slow song.
Karyn White appears twice, off of the Ritual Of Love album. One Heart and How I Want You are off of the album that was produced entirely by the duo. Karyn White’s first album was produced by LA Reid & Babyface, the second by Jam & Lewis. It does not get any better than that!
New Edition appears here with Boys To Men and Can You Stand The Rain. The Heartbreak album was the beginning of the “Grown up” New Edition.
Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis with Janet Jackson. This may well be the greatest team in modern music history. All of the hits. There are two offerings here, Come Back To Me and That’s The Way Love Goes. There is a third song here, but Ms. Jackson is singing background vocals. Making Love In The Rain, is a song by Herb Alpert. He is the “A” in A&M Records, and a jazz legend. Lead vocals on the track is Lisa Keith, a great singer who has worked with Jam & Lewis for years. If you listen closely, you will hear her voice on many of their productions.
Thank God I Found You (remix) by Mariah Carey and Joe appears in this project, as Terry Lewis co-wrote the original song. It was very clever to incorporate the beat and arrangement for the song Make It Last Forever for the remix version, a song many consider the greatest slow song of the New Jack Swing era.
Speaking of being clever, No More Drama by Mary J Blige, incorporates that familiar intro from the daytime drama, The Young & The Restless. This track is a perfect way for Mary to announce she was making positive changes in her life.
Another artist who was fortunate enough to have productions from both LA & Babyface and Jam & Lewis is Boyz II Men. 4 Seasons Of Loneliness is classic Boyz II Men style with a Jam & Lewis flair.
The highlight of the mix comes from an unexpected source….at least on the surface. The Human League were known for their 80’s New Wave Sounds, such as (Keep Feeling) Fascination, and Don’t You Want Me. The trio had a few songs produced by Jam & Lewis for their Crash album. It seemed like an unusual pairing at the time, but Human hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Dance Club Play, and top ten on the R&B Charts.
Second Chance was El Debarge‘s comeback album, and How Can You Love Me is one of the album’s highlights. DeBarge is widely considered to be one of the greatest vocalists of his generation, and this track fits perfectly in this project.
Finally, Chaka Khan remakes You Belong to Me, a song written by Michael McDonald and Carly Simon. Simon originally recorded the track, but it has been re-made several times, from artists that include Anita Baker and The Doobie Brothers, McDonald’s former group. This version is a more uptempo, funky groove.
