Sam Cooke, AKA Mr. Soul, pioneer of what we now know as Soul Music. Cooke's influence has spanned over 60 years and touched every individual, directly and or indirectly, in every genre of music from Country to Rock to Pop. His influence can be hidden behind the veil of his music. Still, when you genuinely dissect his life, you'll find that his actual influence lies in his social impact, business acumen, and willingness to blaze a trail for himself and others. When it wasn't socially acceptable to use the same bathrooms as whites, Mr. Cooke owned his own record label, publishing, and artist repertoire. He performed on non-segregated stages while avidly contributing to the civil rights movement.
Bradd Marquis uses the songs written and sung by Sam Cooke to narrate a show that not only entertains but informs his audience on Mr. Soul's historical impact. With lessons of life, self- empowerment, and social change, Marquis transports you back in time through the life of Sam Cooke. The audience will journey from his birth as a preacher's son in Clarksdale, Mississippi during segregation, to his tragic death in 1964 as he began to transform himself into a civil rights activist.
