Smooth Jazz Songs In The Mix Vol 1 The Jazz Mix
January 29, 2015 – Exotic DJ debuts the first in a series of the Smooth Jazz Songs Jazz Mix. “This first issue takes us back to 2002, when I made my first attempt at creating the jazz mix,” Exotic said in a recent interview in Las Vegas. “As a nightclub DJ, I wanted to experiment with this because I felt this was something that people could enjoy, whether it was at a lounge, or sitting back relaxing at home.”
“It was harder than I thought because you REALLY have to know the music to do this, and unlike popular music, there are no extended remixes or intros added to the tracks. You have to find the right mixing points and try to blend at that point or “slam” the mix at a point where it does not sound obtrusive. Overall I think this first mix comes across pretty well based on the style of jazz that I like.”
Armed with just two CDj-1000’s and the original CD’s, Exotic cut up tracks from his favorite smooth jazz artists, including two from Norman Brown, one of his favorite guitar players, Boney James, Candy Dulfer and Richard Elliot, who are three funky horn players. We cannot forget about the master, the one who influenced many of these artists, the incomparable Quincy Jones. There is an ensemble group called the Urban Knights that will really bring that funk. The jazz-funk track du jour is “Keep Your Eye On Me” by Herb Albert…A great track produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, at a time when the production duo were at the top of their game. Back then, they were producing Janet Jackson, Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle among many others.
Last but certainly not least, we have Incognito, a great jazz-funk band.
Enjoy!!
