Let us think back for a moment. Vision of Love, off of the Mariah Carey album, was released in 1990. That album actually produced four number 1 hits, and at the time, it was the first to do so since the Jackson 5 to achieve such a feat. Prior to that, she was a struggling songwriter trying to make it in the music business. One person who actually helped her along was an artist by the name of Brenda K. Starr. Brenda was an artist from New York who was big in the Freestyle scene.
Freestyle was a Latin based uptempo style of music, mostly popular in New York, Miami, and California. It was VERY popular in these regions, but if you did not live in these areas, you may not even have heard of it! Anyway, Brenda was the one who took Mariah to an industry party, where she met the head of Columbia Records, Tommy Mottola. The rest, as we say, is history.
Fast forward to 2016, and if my math is correct, that is 26 years since we were introduced to this talented songstress. Most artists would be happy for five years of success.
After 14 albums with 18 number one singles, this train is definitely not about to stop. She just finished up an extended residency here in Las Vegas. We thought she was finished, but not quite yet. Carey will perform a handful of Christmas themed shows this December. She will also release an animated ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Movie.
Here is the trailer for that:
Back to the Las Vegas shows. Carey will perform five shows at the Colosseum inside Caesars Palace.
Here are the dates:
