I know you remember Lisa Fischer from back in the day. She has been on stage with Chaka Khan, The Rolling Stones, Teddy Pendergrass and Roberta Flack among others. I will always remember her as a part of that Luther Vandross vocal group. Yes, I know technically she was one of the background singers, but if you ever saw Luther live in concert, you know that they were a tight, singing group.
Here are a couple of clips in case you forgot:
In addition to the tours, Fischer has also performed in a number of various stage shows. This includes the Theatre (Mama, I Want to Sing!) and a Ballet collaboration – Alonzo King LINES Ballet – The Propelled Heart.
Fischer is also a part of a great documentary called Twenty Feet From Stardom. The doc takes an interesting look at some veteran background singers. It is definitely worth your time. You can catch it on Netflix.

By the way, I mentioned earlier about the Ballet. Well, Fischer will have two blocks of shows with Alonzo King LINES Ballet – The Propelled Heart. This is a unique show that honors the power of song. The piece is a voyage in which King explores the kinetics of the human voice, revealing the communicative potential of the body as an instrument, and also as a vocal chord.
