[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I do not have any type of press release. This is straight from Jimmy Jam‘s Instagram feed:
Hello everybody. Sorry for being long winded but this is a long time coming and this is the SHORT story.
So the 30+Years in the making (more on that later) Jam & Lewis Vol 1 project is only a few months away but the first offering on our relaunched Perspective label is out tomorrow. We decided the first single from our project should be in the spirit of how we started the original Perspective Records in the 90s. And that’s with the Sounds of Blackness.
So the story is around 1984 Terry & I started doing tracks for what was going to be our debut album. When we played some of the tracks for A&R guru John McClain he said “I need those for Janet’s album”. Those tracks ended up becoming the album track “You Can Be Mine” and the first single “What Have You Done For Me Lately” from the multi platinum “Control” album. We won our first Producer of the Year Grammy and our Producer career was validated but our “artist” career was on what turned out to be a long term “hiatus”.
So in 1989 while working on the follow up Rhythm Nation in Minneapolis with Janet we took her to see a Sounds Of Blackness concert. She was blown away and told us we should sign them and do a project immediately. We felt the best home to showcase their incredible talent would be our own label.
Perspective Records was born and A&M was our choice as partners as the team of Herb Albert & Jerry Moss understood our vision. The result was the Grammy Winning The Evolution Of Gospel album which featured the timeless #1 Single Optimistic.
In case you forgot[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/p66Jp6ervRA” el_width=”70″ align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As we jump to 30 years later we feel that the opportunity to reunite Sounds of Blackness with the legendary Ann Nesby and Big Jim Wright (R. I. P.) feels like the foundation from which to build a project to uplift and make you fall in love with music again. Sorry so long winded but hope you enjoy. It’ll be available everywhere at Midnight (9pm pst) tonight.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/9TF7JsQEnyQ” el_width=”70″ align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
Definitely a long time coming, love Sound of Blackness, but can’t wait to get the full affect of the entire album .❤️❤️ Thank you Jam & Lewis for your timeless contributions throughout the years.
