Howard Hewett On Stage
Growing up, Shalamar was absolutely my favorite group. It was a complete musical experience. Often times, when you have a singer or a group, they excel at one thing. It is either the uptempo songs, or the ballads. Usually music acts struggle to do both at a high level. Shalamar came out with their uptempo-funk grooves, and then, BAM….This Is For The Lover In You. That is still my favorite slow jam, and it still stands up today. Even the great Babyface and LL Cool J did a version of the classic.
They had other mid tempo songs such as There It Is and Over & Over, and you can drop your favorite uptempo song here. All classics, all the time.
Unfortunately, the group broke up, and there was no more new music.
Howard then went solo, and the music was back!! I’m For Real, Say Amen, Stay…..And that is just the first album. My favorite album as a whole, is Forever and Ever. Man, there are some jams on there. If you are not familiar, listen to Share A Love, This Time, Natural Love, and Good-Bye Good Friend. You will see exactly what I am talking about.
He has also provided guest vocals on songs such as I Found Heaven with The Rippingtons, and I’d Still Say Yes with Klymaxx.
Howard currently spends his time performing solo, and also with Shalamar. You can see him performing on selected dates in September and October.
