If you are looking to build a new playlist....or two...you might want to check out Catie Waters.
She is fairly new on the scene, and her latest release, Colors, is out now. Her style is pretty unique, as you really cannot place her in one of the "regular" genres. We would like to call her smoothed-out lounge. You can play her music for just about any type of crowd.
Take Get Me Golden as an example. It definitely has an old school funk feel, with that organ leading the groove. To top it off, they lay the horns right there for you to reach out and touch. Waters delivers a sassy vocal, and I would definitely call this a guilty pleasure.
The title track, Colors, is another one you will like. The acoustic guitar leads the way, and it really compliments her performance. I am really going to need an "unplugged" version of this track.
Catie was influenced by artists that include Marvin Gaye, Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder, Adele, Lianne La Havas, and Janelle Monáe. These influences really show throughout the set.
