If you spend any time on this website, you know I love two things: Old School and Jazz. Now if you have a project that incorporates elements of both, then you have a winner.
One more thing. I really like horns. I am talking big horns, when they are actually a part of the song. No filler, but an important part of the groove.
CHOPS N SOUL is bringing al of these together. This project is a collaboration between award-winning Canadian singer/producer/keyboard player “Soul” Joel Parisien and CHOPS HORNS.
Joel is a veteran in the music biz. In addition to writing three top 5 Billboard singles, he is also a producer and arranger in R&B, Funk and Soul. He is also known to throw in some House and Electronic grooves in the mix!
You know CHOPS HORNS, even though you may not know the name. You heard of George Clinton and P-Funk, right? Well, Darryl Dixon was a part of all that. Dixon them teamed up with David Watson and they ended up being the horn section for Sugar Hill Records.
I will just give you a minute to think about the music to come out of there.
That’s what I thought.
Anyway, over the years, you have heard the CHOPS sound, as they have played with Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott, Will Downing, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, The Police, and many more.
Now we have CHOPS N SOUL, and this is real funk.
I will let Joel break it down for you:
I know, right?
Chops N Soul Gimme The Grease
They have an album coming out, and I have to say that I am looking forward to it. Gimme The Grease is the name of the album, and it is also the first single.
You can check that out here:
That guitar is on point! But the horns though…..
Hey, you can gimme the grease, but just don’t mix the “fish grease” with the “chicken grease!”
By the way, they have a cut called Old School, and it features the late, great Bernie Worrell.
Enjoy the samples here, and we will let you know when you can pick up the album Chops N Soul Gimme The Grease.
