If you plan on visiting Charlotte this July, then you might consider heading out to the 3rd Annual QC Summerfest. The Belk Theater will be the scene for this three day event.
Let’s check out the lineup:
Day 1 – Friday, July 28th
Boney James and Althea Rene
Boney James has released 15 albums, with the first coming out in 1992. So many hits, I just can’t choose one. He does have an impressive list of guest vocalists, though. Angie Stone, Faith Evans, George Duke, Eric Benet, Shai, and several others.
I am partial to the Shai collaboration, I’ll Always Love You. That one is off the Body Language album.
Althea Rene has six releases under her belt, and she is known for being the master of the flute. Fun fact: Rene is the first flute player to hit the top of the Billboard Smooth Jazz chart, or any Billboard chart for that matter.
Day 2 – Saturday, July 29th
Gerald Albright and Kirk Whalum
Gerald Albright‘s first album was released in 1987. Just Between Us. He does a nice cover of the Luther Vandross track, So Amazing. Albright has a total of 18 albums.
Kirk Whalum just released #Lovecovers on April 11th, 2017. If you have not heard it yet, be sure to check it out. In case you forgot, Kirk soloed on the Whitney Houston song, I Will Always Love You. I have said this before, but my favorite solo is on Stuff Like That, the Quincy Jones track.
Day 3 – Sunday, July 30th
Eric Roberson and Ken Ford
Eric Roberson has a EP trilogy project. It is called Earth – Wind – Fire. The first installment, Earth, drops on April 21st. Roberson has twice been nominated for a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2009 & 2010.
If you never heard Ken Ford play, then you are missing out on some great violin work. He has three albums, and does some amazing covers of popular songs.
